A friend recomended that I read this account of St Francis' life by St Bonaventure. It is my understanding that this was written not that long after Francis' death. Because the account was written in the 1200s, the translation is written in a rather archaic style. Spelling and phrasing is challenging to understand at times. I was concerned that the book might be difficult for me to read. I stuck with it and found St Bonaventure's account to be utterly charming and full of interesting and sometimes humorous surprises! Relating the life of a Saint is a serious undertaking and the life story is told with much reverence and candor. It is easy to understand how Francis endeared himself to the common folk, to a Sultan, to Abbots and even the Pope. There are also accounts of the miracles attributed to Francis after his death. I admire St Francis all the more for having read this book. I also have an appreciation of St Bonaventure and the way he wrote this account...It was such a thrill for me to find that Bonaventure's enthusiasm and joy came through all the canturies since the book was written. I purchased this book for my Kindle. The print was easily read though I could not see the art work very well.Product details

It is written In a way that is rather boring and difficult to understand.It is not written in current vernacular. Overall it is ok, though.
What a gift from God was this Saint. Truly an inspiration in this decadent age. We should all read about him.
The translation made iTunes difficult to read. The information well done. I liked the numbered para grafts, easy to lay the book down and pick.
It's okay but it didn't particularly inspire me.
I am sure this is a very nice book, but I really had a hard time in trying to read it due to not-so-common english words.
This is a translation of a very old manuscript. I read it many years ago, and it was a special joy to reread it now. It is a very tender biography written by a devout follower of St. Francis. As a vowed Franciscan myself, it was wonderful to reread this and be touched yet again by my spiritual roots. For those readers who are less familiar with St. Francis, this book is a wonderful place to begin.
Life of a Saint written by a Saint! It is said that St. Bonaventure was cured as a child by St. Francis and came into his own close to the life time of St. Francis so knew many of those friars who had lived with the Saint, etc. It is a classic.
